A recent trip to the US showed me how different the quality of drinks can be across the globe.
It’s not just about the variety but it’s the quality. For the same price, the amount of quality is world’s apart. What is a normal drink in the US is a double or triple in Singapore.
Just take a frozen margarita as an example and comparing universal Orlando’s which cost about the same or cheaper than that at a bar in Singapore. The one in Olanda was triple the size, served in a plastic cup and fully frozen with a full taste of rum and lime. Whereas the on in Singapore came 1/2 melted and tasted blend. Lack sweetness and robustness of the lime.
With so many bars popping up in Singapore, it’s disappointing to see many losing the skills of pouring a proper drink and yet charging more. While I understand that Singapore impose quite a hefty alcohol tax and drinks would come at a price, even if one is paying good dollars for a drink, one cannot find a decent one here.
