What are drinks that are unique to Singapore? You've tried Tiger Beer, but what about bandung, teh halia, Milo Dinosaur, sugarcane juice. Join us on a not too serious tour discovering Singapore through its local beverages and topping it off with a visit to the Martini Bar at Mezza9 and try your hand at making your own LycheeTini first concocted here in 1998. Sorry to disappoint if you think this is a cocktails, beer and liquor fest. There's plenty of that too. But we first bring you to a sobering cornerstone of the Singapore water story by introducing you to the Singapore Marina Barrage. Once you've taken in the breadthtaking panoramic views at the Barrage, it's off to a local drinks stall where you sample local drinks such as sugarcane juice, bandung (rose syrup with milk), milo dinosaur and teh tarik. And finally, we get a hands-on cocktail making session with mixologists at the famed Martini Bar concocting the signature LycheeTini. A minimum of 4pax is required.

A recent trip to the US showed me how different the quality of drinks can be across the globe. It’s not just about the variety but it’s the quality. For the same price, the amount of quality is world’s apart. What is a normal drink in the US is a double or triple in Singapore. Just take a frozen margarita as an example and comparing universal Orlando’s which cost about the same or cheaper than that at a bar in Singapore. The one in Olanda was triple the size, served in a plastic cup and fully frozen with a full taste of rum and lime. Whereas the on in Singapore came 1/2 melted and tasted blend. Lack sweetness and robustness of the lime. With so many bars popping up in Singapore, it’s disappointing to see many losing the skills of pouring a proper drink and yet charging more. While I understand that Singapore impose quite a hefty alcohol tax and drinks would come at a price, even if one is paying good dollars for a drink, one cannot find a decent one here.
