Myself, and my extended family decided to fly over to Egypt, (from our home in Cyprus), and stay for 3 nights, as we meticulously toured Cairo and the surrounding area.
In order to satisfy our desire of exploring ALL the pertinent wonders and historical sights Cairo had to offer, we thought it best to enlist a tour guide in order to maximise our educational experience while on the road...
Enter Emad Enan!!!! This man's brilliance is matched only by his charisma, sense of humour, and genuine passion to guide us through the multitude of ancient wonders, sights, bazaars, mosques, churches, etc., of his beautiful homeland.
Throughout our tour, Emad, through his kind and gentle nature, sought to enrich our tourist experience by appending his vast knowledge of ancient/Medieval history to our sightseeing locations. In one vivid instance that really showcased his vast intellect, he brought us down into the sarchophogi/necropolis at the Step-Pyramid of Djoser, located in Saqqara, (using his connections to get us a PRIVATE tour by the way), and proceeded to explain the > 4000 years of history behind the aforementioned necropolis. His knowledge was so acute, that he methodically went through the beautiful, (but otherwise mystifying), Egyptian Hieroglyphs, explaining the storied history behind each one, along with the rich mythology and lavish folklore surrounding these ancient enscriptions. Myself and my family were in awe, and could not stop listening to these epic historical accounts, bolstered by [Emad's] trademark charm and humour. He made learning about these esoteric markings and the surrounding architecture truly a magical experience, (one that my family and I STILL talk about a year later). Truly magical, when you have a top-tier tour guide aiding your tourist experience.
On another separate occasion, we visited the Grand Egyptian Museum, (GEM), a brand new, massive Egyptian historical/cultural museum complete with beautiful, sprawling ultra-modernist architecture, containing some of the most exclusive archeological finds over the last few decades...
What was already a once-in-a-lifetime experience was further upgraded to a premium tourist event by... You guessed it, our beloved tour guide, Emad, (by then basically a cherished member of our family as well). ????
Despite, the GEM not being fully opened for the general public, he was able to secure us a multi-hour tour inside the facility during the GEM's "soft opening." Once inside, we were treated to a plethora of rich historic and archeological finds, including, but not limited to: a 15ft-tall stone Statue of Ramses the II, emaculately preserved Hieroglyphs from the early dynastic period, a mummified Nile crocodile, intricately decorated sarchophogi dated as being over 4000 years old, and busts of various rulers during Egypt's Ptolmaeic period, (and much, much more).
... But it was Emad who made the GEM's exhibits come alive. He expertly used humour and his innate ability to articulate the history of Ancient Egypt to ensure that we had an UNFORGETTABLE experience, full of wonder, appreciation, laughs, and intercultural bonding. He even went about describing Ancient Egyptian creation myths... The daliances and relationships of these metaphysical entities using us as stand-in placeholders to physically illustrate these often nebulous lost tales, in complex tactile detail.
Our family emerged from the GEM laughing, and celebrating our newly acquired knowledge of Ancient Egyptian History... All thanks to the brilliant, passionate tour guide, Emad.
I think the reader probably gets the idea now, but I will end off this review by stating that Egypt/Cairo was breath-taking, a beautiful, rustic city along the Nile River, inundated with pristine modern and ancient archecture, archeological curiosities... Standing in mute testament to the millenia of history and human interaction which has came before us.
This tour is a worthy 'bucket-list' adventure for those whom have not had the pleasure of experiencing it first-hand. You must visit Egypt and learn about this fascinating and life-changing cradle of early civilisation, as well as a bastion of modern North African/Arabian culture. Please visit Egypt and embark on this tour... You owe it to yourself to do so.
And one final note:
When booking your tour, please, I beg of you, please ask for EMAD ENAN as your official tour guide. The man's knowledge and intellect FAR surpasses any professor or academic. His kindness, patience, charisma, and passion for showcasing his proud nation of Egypt is unmatched, and truly made our trip "legendary."
Thank-you Emad, habibi. ????
5 out of 5 stars.
