Kayak for 1 hour at Long Lake Provincial Park. Long Lake is the centrepiece of Long Lake Provincial Park, a 5000+ acre wilderness oasis that borders on the edge of Halifax’s urban core, only a ten-minute drive from downtown Halifax, and central to the entire city. Long Lake was the City of Halifax’s principal water supply from the mid-1800’s to the 1970’s and a result it has always been protected from adjacent development that could negatively affect its water quality. The result is a 3 km+ long lake on the edge of the city with absolutely pristine water and an uninterrupted, unaltered natural shoreline. Long Lake is a great place to spend several hours of a day traversing the lake and exploring the many inlets, two islands and the old dam that created the lake’s current shape two centuries ago.

I’m pretty lucky to live not far from Long Lake, so I’ve rented kayaks with LLAC a few times so far this summer. The staff is super helpful and knowledgable, even when it’s crazy busy they’re patient and a joy to talk to. Getting set up is very straightforward (fill out the waiver online to save time) and they have so much equipment you can pretty much drop in any time. Best of all, they just got new single adult kayaks that are real comfortable and easy to paddle with. Altogether a great experience.

Last week we rented two kayaks, took some water and went exploring Long Lake. The kayaks are well cared for , the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and the lake is amazing. All 10 minutes from the rotary! Wow!! We enjoyed it so much I went back today and tried the paddle board ????

The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. The day was perfect for paddling. Wonderful to have this opportunity within the city. Definitely recommend it.
