I want to share an objective review of the CGN service labeled as the “Patrimoine Tour,” because the name can be misleading. Although patrimoine means “heritage,” this is not a guided cultural tour and not a sightseeing cruise. There is no narration, no historical information, and all announcements are made in French only. The boat simply picks up and drops off passengers at lakeside points — including places of cultural interest like Château de Chillon — but it does not provide any commentary about them.
This is a transport line, not a curated tour.
⭐ What this service actually is
• A pick‑up and drop‑off boat line, not a loop tour.
• If you board in Montreux, the full journey lasts about 3 hours and the boat does return to Montreux, but this is not marketed as a round‑trip cruise.
• You can buy tickets on board if the dock ticket booth is unstaffed.
• First‑class tickets give access to the upper deck and bar area.
• Confirmed stops on my run were Vevey, Chillon, and Lausanne-Ouchy.
⭐ Interior & comfort (very different from the TripAdvisor photos)
The interior shown on TripAdvisor — with tablecloths and a refined dining‑room atmosphere — is not what I experienced. The first‑class indoor cabin looked more like a plain cafeteria: no décor, no ambiance, no special lighting, and nothing resembling the promotional photos.
When the boat reached fuller capacity, the first‑class indoor cabin became extremely humid and stuffy, to the point where I had to step outside to get fresh air. It was not a comfortable environment.
⭐ Staff interactions
I want to acknowledge one staff member who truly made my experience positive — a younger employee with an undercut, top ponytail, light eyes, tattoos, and a warm smile. This crew member was incredibly kind, helpful, and professional— the highlight of the experience.
Unfortunately, aside from this kind crew member, I felt completely ignored by the rest of the staff. No one greeted me, checked in, or acknowledged me except when one male staff member asked to see my ticket. I genuinely felt invisible.
I also encountered a female staff member who was quite rude when I simply asked to pay for my iced tea before stepping outside. She responded sharply that she “didn’t understand what I was saying,” even though I was speaking clearly. Perhaps the most unprofessional individual I have encountered thus far five days into my vacation in Montreux! Thankfully, the kind server stepped in immediately and helped me. But the interaction was unnecessary and unpleasant — especially for a first‑class paying passenger.
⭐ Final thoughts
If you go in with the right expectations — transport, not tour — you may enjoy the scenery from the outdoor deck. But based on my experience, I would not recommend this service as an “experience” or activity. The interior is not as advertised, the atmosphere was uncomfortable when crowded, and the customer service was inconsistent.
In the future, I would simply take the train to destinations of interest. It’s faster, clearer, more comfortable, and far more pleasant than this water transport line. Save your money, enjoy the views lakeside strolling the promenade, and just take the bus or train if you need to go further out of Montreux.
It was a very nice ship, we didn't know it was a regular trip stopping in many places, and you can visit it and wait a coupñe of hour for the next ship
