First time in Portugal for my husband & I and we knew we had to visit beautiful Sintra. We decided on an all day private tour/driver. Nuno, our tour guide and driver was amazing! He picked us up at our hotel and spent the next 8+ hours with us touring Sintra. We customized our itinerary and even on the day of we made a few slight changes and Nuno fully embraced it and accommodated our needs. We visited 3 palaces, had a very enjoyable and authentic Portuguese lunch (that Nuno made reservations for) and even got in a little shopping at the artisan shops in downtown Sintra. Do yourself a favor and book Picta Travel for your private experience. It is worth every penny! No parking issues, a personalized tour guide that explains everything to you, no waiting in lines and fully customizable. A few takeaways: 1) wear comfortable shoes. The cobblestone pathways are no joke. 2) Bring a light jacket and/or rain jacket. Sintra has its own microclimate and in the mornings it can be very misty with light rain. 3) Stay hydrated and bring a water bottle. Extremely enjoyable tour of Sintra and the coastline. We hit it off with Gabriela immediately. She was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about Portuguese history and culture. Took us to a fabulous lunch spot on the coastline. Highest recommendation. We have already booked her for another tour.

We got so lucky, our tour guide Francisco was an absolute gem! As we toured he gave us insight to royal family heritage and architectural history. We went to the Pena Palace and the Regaleira and he walked us through the diverse religious and cultural history. The sights were absolutely stunning, the city of sintra is hard to beat. I cannot recommend this enough and if you can, please ask for Francisco. Absolute rockstar.
