Viator sold me a "all included" ticket (4:extra experiences). When I got to the museum ticket office they said there was no room left on them, and that I should have bought the tickets from the AMNH website to book a timeslot. After arguing for some time they "found" slots on two experiences. Conclusions: 1) Buy from the AMNH website 2) At least one of the two - AMNH and Viator - is running a mild scam. Up to you to decide which.

You have to book your tickets online, you can't buy them at the museum. We booked ours for 12.30 and turned up 15 mins beforehand to a line which snaked pretty much around the building. We would have been in line for over an hour for sure. We got to the end of the queue and then realized there was a smaller queue at a back entrance (to some Earth and Space area). We were in line for maybe 10 minutes. Highly recommend looking for an alternative entrance if the main line is super long. The museum itself is pretty cool. Good exhibits. The food in the café is pretty average and expensive, which is to be expected I guess. Maybe bring snacks and eat elsewhere if you can.
