Private Full Day Off-Road Tour in Madeira

Unforgettable from start to finish! Our guide, John, made this private off-road tour one of the absolute highlights of our time in Madeira. He was enthusiastic, entertaining, and incredibly friendly — the kind of person who instantly makes you feel like you’re exploring the island with a longtime friend. John took us through some amazing off-the-beaten-path locations that we would’ve never discovered on our own. The views were breathtaking, the ride was exhilarating, and the experience felt completely tailored to us. He even went above and beyond by arranging a lunch reservation so my wife and I could celebrate our anniversary with a stunning view of the natural pools. It was one of those “pinch me” moments we’ll never forget. If you’re considering this tour — do it. You won’t regret it. Thank you, John, for helping us create such a special memory in Madeira!

A great excursion from start to finish. John was an excellent host/guide and took us to some great spots via some exciting off-road routes. He also secured us a perfect table for lunch which was an added bonus. A 'must do' tour for anybody wanting to see the best of Madeira.

At the cost of making my family sound like a nightmare I offer this truthful wonderful review! Miguel picked us up exactly on time - we had requested a car seat for our 2.5 year old grandson and it was in the jeep ready to go when he arrived. We had heard some people had booked a jeep tour and a van or suv picked them up, My grandson was overjoyed by the BIG TRUCK! we had a genuine 4 wheel drive rugged off road vehicle that was well maintained and felt completely safe on the steep mountain roads we traveled. Miguel genuinely loves his job and enjoys talking to people and making everyone feel comfortable. Our day was a wreck only 2 hours into our adventure we got an urgent call from our Airbnb that our stay was over - we had made a mistake and it booked our accommodations for the wrong days to line up with our flight and at just 11am our host needed us to come get all of our belongings out of the house because they had different guests on their way and we were already an hour past checkout. This should have ended the tour. We needed to drive to our house which was over an hour from the mountaintop pit stop we had just taken to site see. Miguel said “no problem I will take you to your house, and will load up your bags and then we will continue your tour - I am very flexible” this kind man showed no sign of frustration and cheerfully drove us to our parked car to get keys to the house and then to the opposite side of the island while we were scrambling to secure a hotel for same day accommodation. When we got to the Airbnb we were locked out. The entire point of going to the rental car was to get the keys to the house and in the rush to put stuff in the car and find a hat for the baby I somehow forgot to get the keys. So this guy has 3 adults and a baby locked out of our rental now almost two hours off schedule. The Airbnb host came and opened the house for us within 15 min and our tour guide never once showed signs of frustration. What should have been a wasted expensive 7 hour excursion and most frustrating day of our trip became a wonderful day enjoyed by all. Miguel hosted us for 10 hours by the time we were nearing the end of our scheduled jeep tour he should have left us on the side of the road wirh all of our crap! He knew we had to wait another couple of hours to meet the host of our new Airbnb and just continued the tour, never said he was late or over time didn’t discuss cost this man was 100% committed to our family having the best day we could, and was unfazed by our chaos! When we had phone calls that delayed us he stoped and entertained the family with stories about the history of the island while two of us were on the phone. We were an impossible group and he treated us like his favorite guests. When a good day was really impossible Miguel made it a great day and we experienced incredible views, odd road trails that had us all clinging to the handles and genuinely bouncing in our seats, not because of fast speed but some of the trails were very bumpy. I’m overly safety conscious and was concerned about the vehicle maintenance, the drivers skill and the hazards of off road travel. I offer 5 stars in every category ! Miguel easily could have dropped us off before noon and kept our entire booking fee and I would have had no hard feelings, this man brought us to the new Airbnb at 7pm, helped us carry in our bags, waited for 15 min while we rushed to meet the host and get the baby settled and then took me back to my rental car 20 min away. Absolutely amazing service and a warm handshake and well wishes. Of course I paid him for his time but he never brought up money the entire day. Remarkable customer service, and made the absolute worst travel day any of us ever experienced into a wonderful adventure. He’s also speaks 5 languages and translated for us along the way and my wife had an old historical hand written document about her great great grandfather, written in pen in the 1800’s that Miguel cheerfully read and translated for my wife.
