Extremely inconsistent service. On the first try of the NL tour, we had a driver/guide who said upfront he was a last minute substitution; he was very chatty and pleasant - however, wrapped up the tour quite - what felt like - rushedly, claiming no lights were imminent. On second try (after pointing out the issues about the first night), we were assigned a senior person, Magga. Clearly knowledgable, she made a huge effort to show us the lights due to favourable conditions on the night, but we had no luck. She did request us to rebook though for a free tour on the next available date. When we tried to do this, we were told by the ‘office’ that a third try was not entertained, despite having being given the assurance by a senior guide. On pressing the matter, we were finally told that the tour was cancelled due to the weather, ie there was no point in us trying any further. This could very well be the truth, however, we paid another tour company (Outventure) and experienced a dramatic show of lights on that very night. Yes the weather was very windy, but we saw the NL nonetheless.

Absolutely amazing! Once again my tour guide Pearl from Troll Expeditions was relentless! Four hour chase all the way back to Reykjavik ????????????

We knew that seeing the northern lights was going to be uncertain because of clouds and weather and I won’t dock our guide for not seeing them - he really tried hard to find a spot that we could see them. We had a few things about the tour that we weren’t real happy about: first of all, he drove like a maniac - he was following another van VERY closely and just whipped us around roundabouts and over speed bumps at high speeds. And secondly, he didn’t do anything to make the experience personal or really share any information. There were 3 young women on the tour and I heard them whispering to each other, “what exactly are the northern lights?”. We had enough driving to get to places where we felt that should have been discussed. There was no opportunity to bond the group and make things fun. The group seemed fun and we were all excited and by the end, we just wanted to get back and be dropped off. I don’t remember our guide really ever telling us his name - he could have easily asked people where they are from and tried to get conversation started. It was very impersonal and not real fun. Again, he tried really hard to find the lights for us but that’s about the extent of the tour.
