It was a great tour, even with the rainy weather. No worries, it rains for a few minutes and then clears up. We had enough time at every location. The only place we had bad luck with was Lago do Fuego because it started pouring and we were not able to see anything. The highlight was Sete Cidades. Our guide/driver was great, very entertaining, funny, with a great sense of humor.

The west end of the island is full of stunning natural features—volcanic lakes, waterfalls, rugged cliffs and coastline—and charming villages. This tour covers them informatively and at a good pace. The lunch was sub-par (although the drinks were copious ), but that didn’t really detract from a wonderful day. Our guide was excellent.

Our day with Joao was 11 out of 10! This tour was a short notice decision. The previous day had been raining heavily and we had a tour cancelled as well as very foggy days in the previous week. We had been on the Hidden Gems tour with Pure Azores and Helena said to take this one if we wanted to explore more. Thank goodness we did. And thank goodness that Joao was an experienced guide who uses his knowledge of the area and weather conditions to guide his itinerary. On our previous visit to Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo we encountered a lot of fog and so did not have a great visit. Joao made sure that by going there first thing, we would miss the morning fog....and we did. We got wonderful pictures and memories of the island that we had missed before. This tour also included a great buffet in Lagoa which included regional dishes as well as a salad bar. Of course there was complimentary wine and a shot of local liquor at the end. Our day ended at the far west end of the island where I could imagine relaxing in the lava pools on a sunny day! I could go on but...........you have to go there!
