Ashley went above and beyond to make sure my mother (senior) and I had a good time on her Tram & Treats food tour. She gave us useful information about the airport and transportation, moved up the meeting time when we arrived early, and asked about our plans so she could give us experiences we were missing. Navigating the city was a breeze as Ashley led us on foot, MTR, Ding Dings, and the Star Ferry. Along the way, she gave insights into the past and present of each area and made connections to things we were familiar with. She began with a trip to dried seafood shops, where she explained what the ingredients were, why they’re helpful, and how the locals cook them. After that, it was onto Luk On Kui to try some of those ingredients in dim sum. Dealing with that crowded chaos, sharing a table with strangers, and ordering from a cart would have been stressful on our own. Ashley made it quite pleasant by finding us seats, ordering an assortment of excellent food, and making sure our cups were clean and always full of tea. Next up was a 72-year old tea shop, Mee Heung Chuen Co., where we drank tea with the kind owner. Afterwards, we ate shrimp wontons with tasty broth at Tsim Chai Kee Noodle Shop and learned the correct way to add chili sauce. Next up was the Central Market, the Mid-Levels Escalator System, and Tai Kwun. We also ate mango kakigori (shaved ice dessert) at Shari Shari, explored the Graham Street Market, felt the energy flow at The Center, learned about rituals at the Hung Shing Temple, ate fresh bbq pork puff and wife cake at Kee Wah Bakery, and saw the city from above at Central Plaza. We ended the day riding the Star Ferry and passing by the old Clock Tower as we walked along the harbour front at Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade to our hotel. Ashley is very humble and claims you can get similar experiences from other tour guides. I find that hard to believe because I’ve never had a guide that was as knowledgeable or caring as her. Ashley made sure my mother was okay every step of the way and even sent us a detailed email with links recapping everywhere we had seen. If we ever come back to Hong Kong, we’ll definitely book another tour with her and explore even more of what Hong Kong has to offer.
While there is considerable walking! We experienced all of the Citi’s modes of getting around! From the Ferry to double decker trams to covered walkways and escalators! The delicious part was visiting wet markets and sampling amazing food at various local eateries not easily found as a tourist! Ashly was a wealth of knowledge and a joy to spend the day with!
