You will need to depart early in the morning and drive to Kakdwip (Lot No. 08), located approximately 105 km (about a 3-hour drive) from Kolkata. Your road journey concludes here. From Kakdwip, you will board a local ferry to cross the river to Kachuberia, a journey of 30–40 minutes.
Please note that private vehicles cannot be taken across the river. Upon reaching Kachuberia, you will use local transportation to continue your journey. A 40-minute drive from Kachuberia will take you to Ganga Sagar.
For your return, you will follow the same route in reverse. The vehicle that drops you at Kakdwip (Lot No. 08/Harwood Point) will remain stationed there until your return. To cross the Muriganga River, you will take the ferry again to reach Kachuberia, and from there, the private vehicle will bring you back to the Kolkata hotel for your overnight stay.
Ferry services operate at regular intervals: every 30 minutes in the morning and evening, and every 45 minutes in the afternoon.

Sagar Island, Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India Spend a day away from metropolitan Kolkata and embark on an enriching, enlightening journey to the city of Ganga Sagar on Sagar Island. After pickup from your hotel in Kolkata by private air-conditioned vehicle, head approximately 80 miles (135 km) to Kakdwip. Along the way, your expert guide will explain the history of the area as you admire beautiful views of India’s landscape.
When you arrive, board the local boat with your guide and enjoy a 30-minute cruise on the Ganges River to Kachuberia on Sagar Island. Then, board your private vehicle and listen to your guide’s informative commentary about the region on a 40-minute journey to Ganga Sagar.
Arrive in Ganga Sagar around noon. For lunch, you may choose to enjoy a meal you have pre-packed yourself or, at your guide’s suggestion, visit any one of the small hotels in the area for a traditional Bengali meal (own expense).
Spend the rest of your day with your guide exploring Ganga Sagar and discovering its incredible religious heritage. First, visit Kapil Muni Temple, dedicated to Hindu sage Kapil Muni, and learn how this is one of the most important and most widely visited temples on the island.
Then, visit several religious sanctuaries that house local philanthropic organizations. Follow your guide to the ashrams of Bharat Sevashram Sangha and Ramakrishna Mission, both charitable non-governmental organizations in India, to learn about their humanitarian projects for helping impoverished rural areas in India. I had a great time on the tour. I recently went back to visit India after 25 years.
I was staying in Kolkata and wanted to take a day to get away from the hustle and bustle.
It was an experience getting on the ferry and the ride to and from Ganga Sagar was breathtaking. I was able to experience the other side of India, the quiet beautiful villages with lush land. Once we got to our destination the beach was superb. I stood there for awhile taking in the beautiful surroundings.
My tour director was very knowledgeable and spoke three languages which was impressive.
I recommend taking this trip and leaving early as possible in the morning due to the four+ hour drive each way to get to the destination.
