    This is a walk unlike any other. Many of our guest tell us it is the walk they have enjoyed the most in Madeira. Deep in the valley of western plateau, you will marvel at the rock pools, that over millions of years have been carved out by the waters as they rush towards the sea, forming magnificent waterfalls and cascades. In summer bring your costume and enjoy a cool crisp swim in these crystal clear and invigorating mountain waters. You will experience a diversity of walking terrain from the flatness of the levadas to the gradients of the mountains tracks, as we make our way up the valley. From forest trekking, along unmarked roots, to scrambling up to the oldest levada in the west of the island. An unforgettable experience.

This was such a wonderful way to explore without having to rent a car. We learned comical and had a wonderful time exploring. The stop for lunch at the waterfall was a truly magical experience.

The walk was very pretty but the guide Luisa was not warm or friendly and did not create a pleasant atmosphere, I would not recommend this guided tour, particularly for families.

We booked this tour for the first Sunday in January. Communication with Madeira Explorers was excellent prior to booking, very quick with email replies within office hours and instructions on pick up were clear. We were advised to wait at the hotel reception for pick up between 9 am and 9:15. We were there early, and waited till almost 10. No one came. There is a mobile number on the website for contact outside office hours - there was no reply to texts or calls. The office is closed on a Sunday but I expected an email explanation on Monday - I have had no reply to my emails.
