We provide pickup from most hotels in the following centre areas: Machico, Santa Cruz, Caniço, Garajau and Funchal. Outside these areas the pickup is by arrangement.

    This is a walk unlike any other. Many of our guest tell us it is the walk they have enjoyed the most in Madeira. Deep in the valley of western plateau, you will marvel at the rock pools, that over millions of years have been carved out by the waters as they rush towards the sea, forming magnificent waterfalls and cascades. In summer bring your costume and enjoy a cool crisp swim in these crystal clear and invigorating mountain waters. You will experience a diversity of walking terrain from the flatness of the levadas to the gradients of the mountains tracks, as we make our way up the valley. From forest trekking, along unmarked roots, to scrambling up to the oldest levada in the west of the island. An unforgettable experience.

We booked this tour for the first Sunday in January. Communication with Madeira Explorers was excellent prior to booking, very quick with email replies within office hours and instructions on pick up were clear. We were advised to wait at the hotel reception for pick up between 9 am and 9:15. We were there early, and waited till almost 10. No one came. There is a mobile number on the website for contact outside office hours - there was no reply to texts or calls. The office is closed on a Sunday but I expected an email explanation on Monday - I have had no reply to my emails.

My first levada walk but certainly won't be my last. It did drizzle a bit but it did not mar the day. Where we stopped for lunch by the lagoon was so beautiful and I promised myself that when I return in summer, I will do the same walk to enjoy the lunch at least in warmer and hopefully drier conditions. Thanks to the multilingual Margarita for really making the day and taking care of the group.

Good walk along the levadas in a lovely area, despite not great weather the team were positive and helpful leading the group well. The only thing that would have been helpful was a bit more information about what we needed to bring - walking shoes, waterproof layers etc
