Communication with Joker Expedition was none existing. We tried reaching out to them numerous times but all answers were given either as “yes “ or “no” even though our questions were not simple yes or no questions. E.g we asked if they had a packing list and how we could expect the hostels to be at night, and the only answer to this was “yes”. We tried reaching out in Spanish instead with more questions, but we never received an answer. This lack of communication continued throughout our trip. We were picked up from the hotel from a Joker Expedition employee who made sure that we arrived in the bus station in La Paz. On the information page it states that the bus leaves La Paz at 20:30 but it actually leaves at 21:30. Also, they said that we would get dinner onboard of the bus, but this turned out only to be a water and a small packet of crackers. Had we known this, we would have gotten dinner beforehand so we wouldn’t go to sleep hungry!
When we arrived in Uyuni we were picked up by a person and driven to a hotel to be checked in for a couple of hours. This information was not provided anywhere, which is weird since it is nice to get a hot shower and breakfast. And none of the drivers we met spoke English, so no one could inform us where they were taking us and what the next step was.
Furthermore, on the information page it says to bring 200 BOBS per person. However, when we got picked up by our tour guide and were on the way to the salt flats, he told us that we needed to bring at least 300 BOBS per person since toilets were not free. None of places we went to took credit cards and there were no ATMs at any of our stops. We were also informed on the first day that the second night was going to be cold, and that you are able to rent a sleeping bag which cost 50 BOBS per person. This could only be paid in cash, but since we were misinformed about the amount to bring, we didn’t have enough money to rent sleeping bags. They also said that we could pay for the sleeping bags at the second stop, which everyone on the tour understood as the second place where we are going to sleep at, but it was the second stop the first day (I don’t know if that really helps, because there is no time to go to an ATM).
In addition to this, the second place we stayed at didn’t have enough food for dinner either, so we ended going to bed hungry.
With that said, the tour is fantastic and you get to see a lot of different beautiful sights, but we would not recommend booking through Joker Expedition since the none existing communication meant that we weren’t able to fully enjoy our trip.
