We had a great times at Tulum, we booked our tour with
Rodolfo montes from our hotel. We were picked up right on time in the morning from our hotel lobby and driven straight to tour bus. It was mid size Group, we took the bus tour with our lovely tour guides Alan and Karla they showed us around Tulum, follow by visit to cenote and lunch there, we also went to playa da Carmen on the way back. It was a amazing experience we had from start to finish.
Thank you Rodolfo montes for booking us a great tour to Tulum.
My mom and I booked a half day tour to Tulum through Sunwing and Nexus tours at Iberostar Paraiso Beach. It started off fine when the van picked us up at the hotel at 7:30am, and we were supposed to arrive in Tulum at 9am. The driver even confirmed this after picking up another family at a different hotel along the way. About 45mins into the drive, the driver received a phone call. I was able to understand enough Spanish to pick up on him saying he had 2 people from Iberostar, and 4 from Wyndham. Not long after the van pulled over to the side of the highway where we waited about 15mins. We had no idea what we were waiting for, or why we were stopped, as no information was relayed to us. A big tour bus pulled up, and we were rushed from the van to the bus. We still had no idea what was going on. The huge tour bus stopped at many more resorts to fill the bus, and we ended up getting to Tulum at 10am, 1hr later than we should have gotten there. When we got to Tulum, we realized that we were now part of a large guided tour (now with Ekinox tours, and not Nexus) of the ruins, the Mayan Village and The Cenotes. We did not sign up for this, as my mom cannot do a lot of walking. That's exactly why we wanted to do the half day, and not the full day! We were completely rushed through the ruins by the most arrogant, rude guide (Louis Barrera), who wouldn't wait for the whole group to arrive at a monument/building to start explaining the history. So we got absolutely NO history of the ruins! At 11:06am we were finished the tour, and the guide informed us that we had to be back at the meeting spot at 12pm to leave for the Cenotes! We barely had enough time to get to the meeting spot on time, which left us absolutely NO time to shop at the little shops or get a bite to eat. At this point we were starving, so I ran to buy us each a bag of chips. We were promised a water and snacks (we were told there would be fruit), but when we finally got back on the bus, they handed us each a tiny extremely dry fruit bar (3 small bites), and we got 2 bottles of warm water for the whole day (we couldn't even buy water anywhere). I have no idea how we went from booking a half day with Nexus tours, to be thrown on a huge tour bus with Ekinox tours and being forced to do the whole day. We were supposed to arrive back at our resort in between 1pm and 2pm (with Nexus), but we didn't get back until 5pm. We then had to wait until 6:30pm for the buffet to open, to finally get some food. I complained to Sunwing the next day, who in turn got in touch with Ekinox tours. I asked to be reimbursed for the tour, because I did not pay to watch my mom suffer all day doing something we knew she wasn't able to do. Again, that's why we booked the half day! They refused to refund our money, and instead offered us 1 bottle of cheap tequila for the hassle. I don't drink alcohol at all, and my mom doesn't drink tequila, but we took the bottle anyway because I wasn't going to let them get away free. But it was a slap in the face. I will NEVER book another excursion with Nexus, and especially not with Ekinox tours, and I won't book another vacation through Sunwing, because the rep was horrible from day 1 to day 14. AVOID THESE 2 TOUR COMPANIES AT ALL COST!
