Do not trust this company! Once they have your money and you're on the shuttle, anything can happen. First of all, the shuttle driver sent me a text a few hours before pickup asking me to send him a location pin so he could be sure he goes to the correct hotel. Since there is only 1 Hotel Barcelo in San Jose and it's a big hotel, I thought it was an odd question, but ok, no big deal. Driver, shows up, on time and we leave. Things are going great! I live in Costa Rica so we were chatting it up. Five minutes on the road and he pulls over to the side of the highway. Confused I asked "What's going on?" He says "We need to pick up people at the airport and I need to call to find out where to pick them up." Since he called me and asked the same thing I didn't think anything of it. Until 15 minutes pass and I ask again "What's going on?" He again says "I'm waiting to hear from the people at the airport. " I ask "How long of a grace period do you give them? At some point it's just too bad so sad for them if they don't respond. How much time do you give them?" He says "30 minutes" I say "that's very generous, but ok, we've been here already for 15 minutes, so in another 15 minutes we can go?" Him: "No ma'am, 30 minutes from now." Me: "What? Why? if you showed up at my hotel and I was in the shower, would you have waited 30 minutes for me to get ready or would you have left me? How is it fair to hold me up because they aren't responding? They know they booked a shuttle." Literally one hour later we are still on the side of the highway. I had a ride waiting for me in La Fortuna because my final destination is 1 hour outside of La Fortuna. This was just the first leg of my journey, now I'm going to be late getting to La Fortuna. I had to call my ride in La Fortuna and say "I have no idea when I will get there, I'm so sorry." Volcano Travel had my money and I'm sitting in a hot van on the side of the road for an hour, and there is absolutely NOTHING I can do except cry. Even though I don't think it was the drivers fault he kept making lame excuses and promising we'd be leaving soon. Every 5 minutes he'd say something like "sorry but there is nothing I can do." Which at that point just made things worse. I told him to keep quiet because his lies were falling on deaf ears . When we picked up the other people, they boarded and asked me "how you doing?" The driver was at the curb getting their suitcases so I quickly told them what had just happened. Once the driver got into the van, I was done explaining and didn't mention it again. As we are driving, some of the people were asking me questions about how I like living in Costa Rica. Every time, and I mean EVERY TIME I tried to answer them, the driver had an announcement to make. He'd loudly and rudely cut me off in mid-sentence. He offered several times to pull over if anyone needed to use the bathroom, get a drink/snack, stretch their legs, whatever. We already had a planned stop factored into the ride, but now he was offering to make additional stops. If someone sneezed, he'd say "I can pull over so you can get some tissue." Or some one shifted in their seat, "You want me to pull over so you can stretch?" It became clear to everyone on the bus how rude he was being to me, AND how eager he was to slow down the trip as much as possible because he knew I was pissed off. He was clearly antagonizing me. These people were eager to get to their hotel rooms and get settled in, so they said "No, we don't need to stop anymore." But it didn't stop the driver from offering though. We did pull over once because a passenger needed his inhaler from his luggage. Totally understandable and absolutely not a problem. He took literally 1 minute and we were on the road again. So if you need to be somewhere on time like a tour, the airport, or something important, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Once they have your money and your butt is in the seat, they can do whatever they want.
