Bottom Line up front:
1. Driver attempted to cheat me.
2. Service is expensive (you pay European prices for North African service).
3. The guide (Mr. Saeed) is extremely knowledgeable and professional.
4. The vehicle had poor suspension which is magnified on Cairo’/Giza’s poor road infrastructure.
5. The driver adhered to Covid-19 precautions.
Full story: This was my third trip to Cairo. In my opinion, it is vital that tourists use a reputable agency to conduct airport transfers to/from your hotel (provided said hotel does not offer a reasonable shuttle service). I read the reviews in Viator regarding Horus tours and decided to use their services. I will say the driver arrived in a clean vehicle (relative for Egyptian standards) and transferred us to the MENA house in Giza without incident. We decided to continue to use Horus services for some adhoc tours during our 6 night stay. The cost (in my opinion) was exorbitant; however, the driver was relatively good (in spite of the poor suspension in the vehicle which is made the ride somewhat difficult given the state of the road infrastructure in Cairo). The driver always kept the car clean and adhered to Covid-19 mitigation measures (by wearing his mask). I would have left a five star review if not for the driver’s antics on the final day. Upon leaving Cairo, I tipped the drive a significant amount for his services. I had previously tipped him and even purchased him lunch the prior day. Due to an unforeseen event, I was unable to make my flight and was required to obtain a Covid-19 PCR test for my following destination. I asked Horus to send the driver back to pick me up and take me to the clinic where I could obtain the PCR test. Since there are no “quick PCR results available” in Egypt, I was forced to spend another night in country at a hotel relatively close to the Airport. The driver attempted to defraud me by attempting to force me to pay for hotel parking (which was free). I informed the driver parking was free. He swore he was required to pay for parking and could not leave the hotel without paying. I paid him the money and he left. Due to the discussion about money, I got sidetracked I left an important document in his vehicle. The Driver was forced to return to the hotel. The driver once again attempted to convince me he was required to pay for parking. This time I consulted the bellboy who informed the driver “parking is free.” To which the driver claimed he was forced to pay during his prior exit. Upon the driver leaving, I asked hotel security to review the tapes and to determine if the driver actually paid for parking. He did not. His bald face lie and greediness is the primary reason behind the poor review (coupled with the high cost of the service). If the driver was willing to cheat me after giving him a significant tip, this speaks volumes of his character. After reporting this incident to the Manager (Mr. Mohammed) he informed me the driver would be punished and offered to help me by offering a free transfer from the hotel back to the airport. However, by this time the trust was broken and I decided to use the Hotel taxi. The driver’s lie really disappointed me. Honestly, I would use the guide’s services again, but would not contract with Horus because of the breach of trust.
