Full day Barolo&Barbaresco Wine Tour from Torino with a local winemaker

Our guide Marco is a true ‘farmer’ with a passion for the wine growing process. We got to taste many wines at various sized wineries. I highly recommend this tour with Marco.

Marco is very passionate about winemaking and very knowledgeable about the region he grew up in. Wonderful spending the day with him to learn more about the Langhe area and its wine making history. Marco is admittedly “a farmer not a tour guide” so there were some minor logistical hurdles (needing to reschedule for a different day, going to a different place for lunch than expected, having to take a train to Asti to meet up instead of the advertised hotel pickup in Turin). But, overall this was a very good experience and a highlight of our trip. Anyway, I prefer someone like Marco who will have a conversation with you and is down-to-earth versus the canned speeches / over-managed schedule you get with some tours. Very much recommend booking this tour.

Marco collected us from Torino and drove us to the famous Barollo and Barbaresco wine growing area of Piemonte, the Langhe, where he was born and is now a winemaker. His knowledge of the area and the complex structure of wine naming based on the grapes used and the position of each plot in the area was amazing. We saw his vines and learned about the soil, water, microclimate and sunshine needs and how the winemaker deals with his vines to care for them and therefore grow them for the best wine. The scenery was gorgeous with vineyards and hilltop medieval towns and castles as far as the eye could see. We tasted Marcos wines and two other winemakers wines to enjoy the differences. We had a delicious lunch at a restaurant in a medieval town with narrow cobbled streets and a looming castle tower. We discussed the other famous products of the Alba area, hazelnuts and truffles.
