This tour was an incredibly distressing experience due to discrimination, inaccessibility, and poor treatment by both fellow passengers and the tour guide. As a Black couple, we were met with racism from the moment we stepped on the bus. Passengers ignored us, clutched their bags as we walked past, and made offensive remarks in French, assuming we wouldn’t understand. One woman explicitly questioned why Black people were even allowed on these tours.
Beyond this, my wife, who has a prosthetic leg, struggled to keep up with the group due to mobility issues. Despite my repeated requests, the guide and group left us behind at the first stop in Sidi Bou Said, giving us no information on the meeting time or place once the free roaming part of this tour was done. We spent nearly an hour searching for the group, only to be met with anger and blame from the guide. When I tried to explain my wife’s disability, , he dismissed it, stating he “didn’t care” and was “in a hurry.”
Back on the bus, more racist comments were made by passengers, and the guide publicly humiliated me, storming down the aisle to reprimand me aggressively. I was forced to stand up for myself, yet he refused to listen or de-escalate, causing another British passenger to step in. The experience was so degrading that we chose to leave the tour early and arrange our own transport back.
This was the worst travel experience we have ever had. No one should have to endure racism, public humiliation, and disregard for disability needs on a paid-for tour. I am requesting a full refund and compensation for the emotional distress and additional transport costs.
