Ice caves in Iceland are unpredictable and you never know when, if, where or how many will form. But in the last few years, they have consistently formed by Vatnajökull glacier, which is the largest glacier in Europe. They are beautiful to see and a popular photo opportunity for many travelers. This tour will take you on an exploration of an ice cave inside the National Park of Vatnajökull. Ice caves are a rare phenomena that form naturally, so this tour is a once in a life time experience.

The weather in Iceland is unpredictable and can be changing rapidly. Our guides check on a daily base if it is save to go to the ice cave.*
Our guide decides which cave to visit every day depending on safety and weather conditions. If on that day the cave is not suitable to enter, due to unforeseeable reasons such as a glacial flood, excessive rain around the cave, our guide will inform you at the meeting point. You can choose to either follow our guide on a glacier hike to the cave (but do not enter due to safety reasons), or you can choose on site to cancel the tour with a full refund. If you choose the glacier hike we will also refund you 30% of the tour. We hope the glacier hike and partial refund will compensate you, as the surrounding area of Vatnajökull is extremely beautiful and does not disappoint.

Booked a 3hr tour from 930-1230. But travelling to and fro to from the meeting point to hiking point took 30min each. The entire ice cave hike took about 1h only. Departed from the ice cave point at 11:10 and reached back to meeting point at 11:40. The tour ended close to 1h earlier and no explanation was given. Guide was disengaged and underwhelming, ice cave was disappointing (not the fault of tour/guide). Overall, not recommending this tour and any ice cave tour in April.

Really enjoyed this once in a lifetime experience. After a super jeep ride we walked on the glacier and through some ice caves. At this time of year (late April) we were lucky to see any cave’s remaining at all and regardless of the small size, it was still great to see and our guide took photos for us and everyone who wanted them without us asking. We learned lots about how the glacier is formed and therefore were not disappointed when the picture of the cave on the website doesnt match what we saw - it’s NATURE! And it changes- new caves are formed every year and then they melt. It would be a good idea for the website to include a warning that pictures are indicative and explain that they are constantly changing to avoid negative feedback that is outside their control. We were really happy with the tour

This was an awesome experience and one of the highlights of our trip. You take a small van to the glacier, walk through ice caves, and they even take some pictures for you to keep. I would be cautious if you are claustrophobic, because sometimes you are crouching in smaller areas. But still a super fun and amazing time. They provide crampons and it’s very easy to walk on the ice. Definitely recommend!
