I enjoyed a few wonderful hours with Terumi san. She is a caring and intelligent instructor who made me feel comfortable. She has an abundance of knowledge on Japanese food, sweets and the tea ceremony. Not only does she have the technical skill to help you make delicious food, but she also deeply understands the philosophy of wa shoku and the tea ceremony.
Terumi picked me up from the station (I accidentally went to the wrong one!) Terumi also went the extra mile in preparing an addition of food for our lunch, which we shared with her wonderful Aunt. I was so full! There was a genuine feeling of love and gratitude at the table.
I now feel confident in making soy milk with a trustworthy recipe and method. And from this, delicious yuba and tofu can easily be prepared. Terumi and I made nerikiri (a type of Japanese sweet) which wasnt as hard as it looks!
The tea ceremony was a beautiful process and I felt the added level of instruction (I was asked to have a go!) helped me to more fully understand the practice. I thought a tea ceremony would be quite austere, but thankfully this was fun.
Terumi had all the photos of our day uploaded really quickly in a shared folder. She even took me out to a local shop so I could buy a souvenir of our day. What a wonderful experience; I can't wait to do it again!
