2 main points here: 1)this company is extremely disorganized and rude and 2)Madrid is not a bike friendly city
On the website for this bike tour we requested a baby seat because we were bringing our baby along. They were extremely suprised to see we brought a baby and denied that we had requested a seat for her. We had to show them our email confirmation and prove that we had added it. They seemed very irritated and begrudgingly got the seat for us. We also requested baskets on our bikes and we had no baskets, we didn’t even bother to ask about it because they had already been rude.
Like another review said, the bikes are really tall. Everyone in our group that was under 5’6 could not reach the pedals. We asked for different bikes and again the people were super rude about it. They ended up giving us the shorter bikes but made comments about how we should have told them earlier. There was no option on the website to indicate height so I don’t know what they meant by that. I assumed that by picking an adult bike I’d be able to reach the pedals.
Madrid is, as our tour guide literally admitted, “not a bike friendly city.” I was scared for my life on this tour. Our guide took us to the most busy places in Madrid and had us swerving all over the place. There were no bike lanes in many of the streets and traffic circles she took us in. My sister almost got hit by a bus and the tour guide yelled at her for “being in the bus lane” when the guide had literally passed through the bus lane herself, my sister was just following her. There were motorcycles weaving around us, cars everywhere, I literally felt like I was in the middle of traffic at all times and I was going to be hit. In Retiro Park, our guide literally had us weaving around the trash cans and lampposts because the main area was so busy. Again this was super dangerous especially with one of us having a baby seat.
Later on our visit to Madrid, we explored and saw many smaller streets that our tour guide could have easily taken us on. Instead the path was extremely dangerous and unsafe. We were there a few days after new years (before three kings day) so the city was probably even busier than usual. The company and guide should take that into consideration and provide an alternate path for when the crowding gets really bad. Or during the holidays they should only do Segway tours.
This company did not treat us well and the bike tour was completely and totally unsafe. We’ve done other bike tours in Montreal and New York and this was completely out of hand in terms of customer service and safety. Overall our tour guide was nice and she was trying her best but it was clear she was irritated by us.
