The stops mentioned under "Itinerary" are possible destinations of our tour. I am more than happy to compose an individual tour, which is based entirely on your preferences and wishes. I was not only born in the famous historical city of Heidelberg and know the area extremely well, but also lived and worked in the US and hence speak fluent English. If you wish, I can help you with the organization of your trip ahead of time.

    The castle fortress of Dilsberg, one of many possible destinations on our journey, rises proudly above Neckargemünd on the mountain of the same name. The castle once belonged to the Counts Palatine of the Rhine and fulfilled a military function. Today, the stair tower in the ruins offers a fantastic view over the Neckar Valley and Odenwald.

  • Schloss Hirschhorn, Hirschhorn (Neckar), Hesse, Germany
    Hirschhorn, one of many possible destinations of our journey, is also called the pearl of the Neckar valley. In the summer of 1878 Mark Twain visited Hirschhorn and dedicated a chapter in his book "A Tramp Abroad" to the city. Among the sights of Hirschhorn are the medieval castle as well as the historic old town with its numerous old half-timbered houses. On our way back we will stop to see the ruined castle of Dilsberg which is not only a marvel of medieval architecture but one also known for a stunning view of the Neckar river valley.

The famous sandstone gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame with its famous astronomical clock is the city's landmark. In the streets and squares surrounding the cathedral you will find a medieval cityscape of Rhineland black and white timber-framed buildings. Another landmark worth visiting is the district of La Petite France with its canals and narrow alleys.

    The Mercedes-Benz Museum, just one of many possible destinations of our journey. The website describes absolutely aptly what the visitor can expect: The museum relates its history and tells its stories, bringing both alive by placing them in the context of technology, day-to-day life, social history and popular culture. More than 160 vehicles of all types are the main protagonists. They range from some of the oldest automobiles ever built to legendary racing cars and futuristic research vehicles. Together with other exhibits, they form the centerpiece of the permanent exhibition covering a total of 16,500 square meters in twelve rooms. This unparalleled world can be discovered on two tours that follow a “Legend” and “Collection” narrative.

We had a wonderful time in Heidelberg with Manfred. We took the train from Stuttgart, and Manfred picked us up at the station. Fortunately, Manfred brought along umbrellas for all 5 of us, as it started to rain as soon as we arrived. We spent the morning touring the castle (and the Pharmacy museum, which was a treat for my son who is a Pharmacist!) and then went into the town (Altstadt) for shopping and lunch. There weren’t many restaurants open on off-season Mondays, so keep that in mind if you have options for which days of the week to tour. We found a lovely Italian place, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. After treating us to ice cream, Manfred dropped us off at the shortcut to Philosopher’s Path, where we took a rigorous walk up and down the other side of the river. The views were gorgeous and well-worth the exercise. Manfred picked us up at the end of our walk and dropped us off for dinner at a charming restaurant not too far from the train station. Before catching the train, we stopped at a rooftop bar in the Atlantic Hotel offering great drinks and lovely views of Heidelberg. The McCann family highly recommends booking a tour with Manfred. He goes above and beyond to make your visit to Heidelberg exceptional! Thank you, Manfred!

We are on a family holiday and Heidelberg was our first stop. I contacted Manfred back in August after reading his reviews. He responded almost immediately! Our day with Manfred was fabulous. On the morning when he arrived I asked if Strasbourg was an option and off we went (after a coffee at Manfred’s local cafe). Strasbourg did not disappoint - it was absolutely beautiful. Manfred checked frequently that we were having a good day and was particularly attentive in ensuring our son, (who has special needs) was happy and able to access all areas. We highly recommend Manfred’s services- he’s extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. (PS. Our son had a wonderful day and wanted to go out with Manfred the following day!)

I wish I could give Manfred ten stars! We used his services three times during a recent trip. The first was a pickup from Frankfurt airport to Heidelberg. He communicated well prior to pick up and was waiting for us when we arrived. The third time we used him was for a transfer from Heidelberg to Strasbourg, which was super easy. Again, he was punctual and friendly. The second trip, however, was where he really shined. We used Manfred for a day trip to Rothenberg ob der Tauber. Some people just drive and pick up but Manfred takes you around town showing you all the spots of interest, like a tour without all boring details that my teens hate. I, however, love those details so whenever I asked Manfred about a specific building or historical event, he knew the answer. It truly was like having a friend show you around. One final example of how Manfred went above and beyond is that I was looking for a German card game that I had recently played with my Swiss relatives and everywhere was sold out. Manfred called a dozen stores and found three copies for me in a Heidelberg store. The store would have been a half hour walk for me so Manfred biked over and dropped it off at our airbnb... just so above and beyond anything we've ever experienced. And to top it off, he is just a really great guy to spend a few days with. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
