Let’s be honest—Rome’s public transportation can be a bit of an adventure. Locals will even tell you, “Relax... buses aren’t exactly on a schedule.” And they’re right.
In our case, a public bus driver on the way to our Big Bus tour stop decided to embrace that fully—taking an impromptu cigarette break, making a few calls, and even getting off again to throw away trash. As you can guess, we missed our scheduled Big Bus evening tour entirely.
When we finally reached the stop, three Big Bus Rome employees reassured us that we could email the company and request a full refund. It wasn’t quite as easy as they made it sound—it took a few emails and some patience—but in the end, Big Bus made it right.
They worked with us to apply our unused Rome ticket in the next country we flew to, which we really appreciated. That flexibility helped turn a frustrating situation into something positive.
???? What Big Bus Gets Right:
Informative audio guides in multiple languages
Buses with open-top views
Staff at the stop who try to assist when things go sideways
???? A Note to Future Riders:
If you're using Rome's public transport to get to your Big Bus stop, build in extra buffer time (we only built in an extra 45 minutes on top of the scheduled bus route time) seriously. Rome runs on its own clock. But once you’re on board, Big Bus is a solid way to explore, especially if you’re new to the city or traveling with someone who needs a more relaxed pace.
Rating: 4/5 – Big Bus Rome isn’t perfect, but they stood by their service and helped us recover from a missed tour. Friendly, professional, and ultimately a company we’d use again.
We always double-check the availability with our local partners for each booking. Even though this is usually a swift process, it can take up to 24 hours. Once this process is completed you will receive your voucher or ticket by email. If our local partner is not able to confirm your booking we will offer you the best possible alternative. If the new date and/or time doesn’t fit your itinerary, we will reimburse the full amount paid.
