Truffle is an unusual subterranean fungus. There are two important varieties of truffles: white truffle (Tuber Magnatum) and black truffle (Tuber Melanosporum). Both of these can be found in the Motovun forest located in the valley of the Mirna River. Even though truffles can be found elsewhere, Motovun truffles are considered to be of the highest quality.Truffles live 10 – 30 centimetres underground, which makes it hard to find, and that’s why trained dogs are used in the truffle hunting activities. If you came to visit Motovun, you should not miss out truffle hunting adventure. Svilicic family have more then forty years of experience in truffle hunting. When you experience truffle hunting, you will come to realize why it is an internationally appreciated phenomena. To spice up your encouter, we offer various truffle dishes and a unique tasting experience with a glass of famous Motovun red or white wine. We will also offer Istrian prosciutto and a wide choice of other Istrian dishes.

A great experience. My wife and I were based out of Rovinj, and drove to the Motovun area for the day. A great way to do something different. We didn't find much in the way of truffles on our day, but spending time in the field with the dogs is the fun part, and our lunch (included) featured fresh black and white truffles, so we got the full experience and our money's worth. We met Mihael and the dogs in Motovun, and he drove us to the field. He had plenty of mud boots for us to borrow for the hunt. The homemade lunch back at the family's hotel at the top of Motovun, overlooking the valley, was wonderful, and included an "Istrian" charcuterie board, fuzi pasta made by Mihael's mom and covered with fresh sliced white truffles, homemade donuts with chocolate sauce and shaved truffle, carafes of Malvasia wine and homemade travarica liquor.

We had so much fun on the Truffle Hunt with Mihael and his three dogs. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Croatia. Mihael was a great guide and patiently answered all of my questions. Also, his Mom made us an amazing several course meal with truffles. Her pasta dish was probably one of the best that I had in Croatia. I would recommend this experience to anyone who is planning to be near or in Motovun.

Die suche nach Trüffeln mit den drei süßen Hunden war sehr spannend und danach hatten wir ein traumhaftes Essen bei der Familie die sehr gastfreundlich war. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder.
