Maltas malerischer Süden: Hop-on-Hop-off-Tour

We got the last two seats on the upper deck - mine next to a large woman whose ample thigh couldn’t fit comfortably into the narrow seat provided, while my partner had a hard time trying to persuade a reluctant teenager to remove his bag from the last remaining seat on the bus. Although a “hop on hop off” service no-one seemed willing to hop off, probably because they felt they would be very lucky to get a seat on one of the following buses - all the buses seemed to be packed to the rafters. Why doesn’t this company provide more buses? This was April, well after Easter, and not a popular tourist time of the year. What must it be like at the height of summer? Earphones are provided (many of the audio points on the back of the seats don’t work) and you have to fiddle about to find your preferred commentary language while listening to Mozart piano concertos on a loop. Forget this trip and do the sail of the harbours of Valletta instead - far more relaxing and better value for money.

We really enjoyed both the north and south bus tours. The pre-recorded tour audio was very informative and it was fun to sit on the top deck of the bus and enjoy the beautiful views. The timetabling was a bit unreliable, but other than that I would highly recommend this tour!

We started the tour by getting on the bus in Balluta Bay and were not informed that the tour doesn’t actually start until you get to the ferry port in Sliema. The tour spends a lot of time in the countryside driving around rather than bringing you around Valletta or Vittoriosa and visiting the sites as you would hope. It is a very long tour to take with young kids as well. It does visit a couple of beautiful spots such as the blue grotto and marsaxlokk fishing village but you would probably be better taking a taxi or some other form of transport to these locations yourself. I have used the hop on hop off bus tour in many cities which have been very informative and a great guide to the city but i did not find this one did the same.
