I did the two day Tarangire National Park/Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area safari. Our guide Dixon was EXCELLENT. He knew everything about the parks, terrain, climate, animals, and the flora and fauna. What did we see? I’ll start with seeing the Big Five. In Africa, the Big Five game animals are the lion, leopard, black rhinoceros, African bush elephant, and the African buffalo. We also saw zebras, giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, hyenas, ostriches, wart hogs, baboons, many types of monkeys (some of whom stole our bananas at lunch), vultures, and lots of different birds, It was a real life Lion King! Ngorongoro Crater had similar wildlife but we didn't see as many big cats but we did see the Rhino, Hippo, Hyena, and Buffalo. We had plenty of drinks in the cooler and the lunch in both parks was excellent. Fig Tree Lodge was our first night lodging between the two parks and it was clean, cute and quaint. It's not fancy but the rooms are spacious, netting provided around the beds, and the plumbing was - well it's Tanzania, so the shower was "interesting." The food was plentiful and delicious. The only downside - a mosque is nearby and the call to prayer was quite loud. The second night I returned to Arusha after Ngorongoro Crater. The room was included at the hotel where the safari started. I don't remember the name of the hotel but it was extremely bare bones and the noise was constant all night. It's more like a motel with the doors facing outside. The street noise was continuous and I didn't sleep well. The shower barely drained and the water was cold. The bed was comfortable and I slept a bit between the noise. The food was average but the service was excellent. They got me to the airport in a comfortable van in plenty of time. I highly recommend the safari but I advise against the hotel in Arusha.
