We did this route without training.
My partner and I had already hiked at high altitudes in Peru but just for the day.
It is certain that we must be in good health, we succeeded by scrupulously following the advice of the guide (walk slowly, but anyway we could not really be faster!) but I recommend to do this hike but I think it is desirable to train a little.
The first 2 days are rather easy, in the tropical forest, we had a lot of rain on the way of the second day.
The 3rd day was one of the most difficult with the assenscion of the summit. this is the first acclimatization where we exceed 4000.We had some doubts about our ability to succeed in the challenge: symptom of mountain sickness, tiredness of the weather,
I found days 4 and 5 rather easy, but people with vertigo, must be disturbed by the Barranco wall.
The last day is by far the most trying. But it offers the recompence of the success of the summit hike, the landscape is magnificent. Emotions are intense, tear of joys, pride, pleasure of doing this feat as a couple.
We also forget that we have to go back down, the descent is difficult, especially because you are tired.
I recommend having 2 pairs of extremely waterproof shoes and one designed for extreme temperatures -20 ° C. in general it is essential to be well equipped.
Humanly, it was great to share moments with the guides, guide assistants and porters. Our chef's food was delicious
We had a group of different levels, we had to split the group into 2 because there were people too fast for us ...
