Connect to culture, feel the spirit and be inspired. The 'All Blacks' Experience is an immersive experience that connects you to Aotearoa through Māori culture and the spirit of our iconic teams in black, the All Blacks and Black Ferns.
Why Black? The most likely explanation for the black jersey came from a member of the Ellison family. The use of the silver fern as the New Zealand rugby emblem arises from two Maori proverbs: “When one warrior dies another arises” or “Mate atu he toa ara mai he toa” and “When one fern dies another arises” or “Mate atu he tetakura ara mai he tetakura” (marvellously appropriate for a game that is all about support play). The silver fern is significant, with black chosen for the jersey and cap as the colour that would best emphasise the silver fern.
Located a short walk from the Sky Tower on level 4 Federal Street, the guided tour is more than an attraction; it's an opportunity to hear from legends of the game, feel the passion and face the almighty Haka.
The Haka - known as a 'war challenge' or 'war cry' in Māori culture, the Haka was traditionally performed by men before going to war. The aggressive facial expressions were meant to scare the opponents, while the cry itself was to lift their own morale and call on God for help in order to win.
In fact, the All Blacks perform two Hakas: "Ka Mate," which translates to "I die, I live," and "Kapa O Pango," meaning "Team in Black," celebrating New Zealand, the silver fern, and their warriors.
Allow for 1- to 1.5-hours for the visit so you can put your skills to the test at the end of the tour with agility, line out, kicking and passing challenges.
The All Blacks Experience will include a guided tour where you learn what it takes to make, shape and be an All Black. This will include learning the story and feeling the passion behind the All Blacks Haka, up close and personal. You are able to test your rugby skills against the All Blacks and Black Ferns with a hands-on, interactive zone.
The All Blacks are the most successful international men's rugby side of all-time with a winning percentage of 76.8% over 637 Tests between 1903 & 2023. Since playing their first Test match in 1903, the All Blacks have amassed numerous accolades and are considered one of the most prolific teams across any sport.
Therefore, the All Blacks experience really is a must-do if you are visiting Auckland, New Zealand.
