What an amazing, memorable trip. Hazem our driver was lovely and extremely knowledgeable about the history of Jordan. He wasn’t just our driver but our tour guide throughout. On day one we were picked up from Amman promptly and headed to Petra; stopping at Mount Nebo (3 dinar pp), Greek Orthodox Church (1 dinar pp), Dana nature reserve view point (free), shobak castle (free with Jordan pass) and Little Petra (free). We were also taken to a Christian Foundation to learn about mosaic art and were shown around a room with lots of art for sale (they were not pushy to sell anything, but should you wish to buy something, there is plenty to choose from). For our first night we opted for the 3 star hotel which was located 5 minutes walk from the entry to Petra. We had a set meal here which was great at 12 dinar pp (there are loads of restaurants nearby but expect to pay more). Breakfast in the morning was also lovely. The room was big with air con, refrigerator, hairdryer and a stunning rooftop terrace. On day two we visited Petra (on our own) which was amazing (free entry with Jordan pass) expect to do LOTS of walking but it’s worth it! We spent half a day in Petra which was enough time to see all the main bits along the main trail including a hike up to the monastery. No need to pay for a guide as they have free brochures at the ticket booth which details each of the areas along the main trail. After Petra we were picked up from our hotel and went to Wadi Rum which is just incredible! Feels like you’re on planet Mars. We had a 2 hour jeep tour which Hazem joined us for to act as our guide so we could learn more about the desert and its history. In the evening we stayed in a duluxe tent in the desert with our own bathroom and aircon! I would recommend this option. The evening meal was lovely and a chance to meet other travellers. On day 3 we had a lovely breakfast at the Wadi Rum accommodation before heading to Aqaba. We opted to go on a snorkelling trip here in the Red Sea (additional cost) but due to the weather conditions (very choppy) we weren’t able to snorkel - the captain didn’t inform us of this until we had left. However, the boat had a glass bottom so we could still see the coral and sea life. In hindsight we probably would have skipped this and instead wandered around the marina / Aqaba (we did not feel the boat trip was worth the cost, but this was our personal feeling). After Aqaba we drove 3 hours to the holiday inn dead sea where we had lunch and spent some time in the Dead Sea (40 dinar pp) this was a great experience, we just wish we could have spent longer there to relax. After visiting the Dead Sea we were driven back to Amman which concluded our tour. 10/10 service and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a whistle stop tour of Jordan. Thank you Hazem for making our experience so special. Happy to answer any questions for anyone considering this tour (Instagram: jamesandlaratravel - from England)
