I visited Cambridge for a long weekend in July. I took my 26yr old daughter and we stayed at St John's College in the student quad. We cannot recommend it highly enough - the accomodation was comfortable and the breakfasts amazing! It was set in the most beautiful area of the college with fabulous views.
We took a punting trip with Trinity Punts which was fun and walked all around the town. The Kings College Chapel was an absolute highlight - utterly breathtaking and the exhibition around was very informative.
The only thing to remember is that the Fitzwilliam Museum has limited opening hours, which was disappointing, as it's a must-see. So check out when it is open.
Cambridge is full of good pubs and shops. We ate some good homemade pies in The Mitre.
