This was offered as 3 days, but I only had one day available in our schedule and wanted to do it anyway. We were a group of 5 women 2 with some experience, 4 of us 55+ with no experience. The trip begins with a one mile walk/hike to the beach & surf shed. I obviously didn’t pay close enough attention to the excursion description because I didn’t realize it was that long of a walk over varied terrain, and wore the wrong shoes.
I did 95% of the walk in bare feet which was OK because I’m accustomed to walking barefoot a lot however the last bit over the pointy little rocks is where I drew the line and then had to ruin my shoes with my muddy feet.
Guillermo made sure We all understood the surfing etiquette as well as safety rules for being out on the water with our boards. Next he took us through the basics on land, of how to properly align yourself on your board, and move from a paddling position to standing confidently. In the water we split into two groups so we all had a enough personalized attention.
We all came away from the day successfully riding a few waves and most importantly having fun. Guillermo made the day enjoyable, joking with us the entire day - and teaching us to respect the board/water but also to let loose and have some fun. I would definitely go back and do this again - and would say it was one of the highlights (although there were many) on this (my 2nd visit) to Costa Rica
My only regret was leaving my phone locked in the surf shed. I think it would have been perfectly safe on the beach, and I wish I had at least one picture of some of us riding a wave.
