Jamie Martin did a great job quickly building a sense of community among a dozen strangers while we ate ourselves silly at four distinctly different Chicago pizzerias over the course of an afternoon. He was knowledgeable not only of the restaurants and pies we tried, but of notable spots and styles around the country with a focus on connecting to where each member of the group of tourists originated.
At the last minute, I’d tried to book the bus tour, but nothing was available during the remainder of our visit, so I grabbed the walking tour. I’m glad I did, not only because of Jamie and our congenial group, but because even a few blocks of walking between venues helped me feel less guilty and more ready to sample the next pizza. After number four, though, all I could imagine was returning the few blocks to our apartment and collapsing for a cheese and carb-induced nap. Zzzz…
