First off, I wanted to thank the entire team around this astronomical tour. My wife and I have been coming to Chile yearly for the past 6 years (her family was born here) and this is the first time we have been blown away from a Chilean tour. We arrived from Toronto to Santiago, had a quick connection to Calama and then this was our first activity.
As this tour doesn't have many reviews yet, I'll try to give an overview as it really is awesome.
First off communication was fantastic, from the moment we booked the tour (one month out) we were in communication via WhatsApp. They confirmed a week before our reservation and the day of confirmed our meeting location. The communication was key, as Atacama has lots of tiny unlit roads. We opted to book early on our trip to Atacama in case there were overcast skies, we were very fortunate that we had a clear evening. The guide let us know that the next few evenings were likely to be overcast, and they would have to cancel, so a word to the wise is to book near the beginning of the trip.
We were picked up promptly at our meeting location and then taken about 15 minutes from the main downtown area of San Pedro Atacama. The Ford van that picked us up was spacious and although it is a bit of a bumpy ride (due to your typical Atacama roads) we arrived to where the tour would begin. We were given a brief, but insightful guide in a cabin about the stars we would see, and then brought out to view the stars and galaxy. The guide spoke English very well (which helps when you're taking about nebulas, clusters etc), and answered all of our seemingly endless questions about what we were seeing. He had a very strong laser pointer which helped show us where to look with the naked eye. After we had the opportunity to look at a few outdoor telescopes to examine further what we were seeing, all the while being taught some fantastic education of the stars. We were then lead to an observatory which pictures cant do justice. In it was a gigantic telescope, which allowed us to examine the stars and galaxy at great depths, I was actually blown away as I did not realize this was part of the tour.
The tour ends with a picture of you in front of the observatory with a beautiful picture which is then sent to you free. Coffee and hot chocolate are also served at the end of the tour
All said the tour was about 2 hours (which was the perfect length for us) with about 15 minutes of driving on each side.
Both my wife and I would reccomend this tour to anyone, and it is our favourite tour in Chile to date! Thank you!
