Our tour guide, Karen, was incredible, and this was a spectacular day - the highlight of my 10 days in Ireland. We booked the full day private tour for a group of four. This was a real splurge for our family, and I was a bit worried that my family members wouldn't think it was worth it -- but the tour exceeded all our expectations, and we were so glad we did it. I was happy that my sister, who did most of the driving on the trip, had a chance to be a passenger for the day and enjoy the stunning scenery. Karen, our guide, asked us at the beginning of the day if there were any particular points of interest for us, and made sure that we got to see the things we were most interested in. There are plenty of stops to get out of the minivan, enjoy the beautiful landscapes, and take photos. I loved walking on Coumeenole Beach, and seeing Brendan Creek and the Conor Pass (I was glad I was not driving up the mountain!) Our family has Irish ancestry, and we wanted to learn more about the people of Ireland, past and present. Karen is so knowledgeable, and she helped us learn some of the history of the Dingle peninsula, and what it's like to live there today. Dingle is in a part of the country called the Gaeltacht, where the Irish language is prioritized so it can be preserved. It was interesting to hear about how children in the area have their classes in the Irish language, and Karen shared a few Irish language phrases with us. I was so glad I booked this tour. Also, we were traveling with an older person, and Karen was good about identifying which stops were going to be more or less manageable for our particular needs. For other travelers, I'd advise them to bring a bit of cash along, for lunch, and to go in to pet the baby lamb (a very small fee, and worth it).
