My wife and I came to Indonesia for our honeymoon and heard Mt. Bromo was a must-see.
The tour guide/driver Barly picked us up from our hotel in Surabaya. In a country full of friendly people, Barly was among one of the nicest. The hours spent on the road flew by as Barly shared stories about his life and kept us engaged and entertained throughout.
Before we went to Mt. Bromo, we stopped at the waterfall where we got to ride motorcycles up the trail. Then our trail guide took photos of us throughout the trail and under the gorgeous waterfall. Fair warning, they love doing slow motion shots and vertical panos.
Afterwards, Barly took us to a fantastic local chicken restaurant where we had chicken and ginger tea.
That evening we came to a small bed and breakfast at Mt Bromo for visitors. They had nice dishes like Dutch sandwiches, but it’s mostly a place to relax and unwind. The hotel itself is quite pretty and is built on a hill giving it a unique, colorful landscape. (Photo enclosed)
We woke up at around 2 am to board an all-terrain truck that took us up to see the beautiful sunset. Afterwards, we took horses to travel to the mountain itself which we then climbed to see directly into the crater. (Photo enclosed)
Finally, a breakfast with fellow travelers we drove to the airport in Surabaya, stopping for lunch at one of Barly’s favorite places.
Can’t recommend this tour enough. All the stops, people, and food were wonderful. Barly, in particular, was a great travel companion and photographer during the trip. Would completely book him again when we are back in the country.
