I was a little unsure about this tour as from the description in Viator I had understood all transfers would be done by private car. Turns out even though you get a driver, the transfer from Luxor to Aswan is through train. The first day started off rocky as our driver left us in the train station and told us to take the first train and we did; and it ended up being the wrong train. After a few stressful moments with the conductor we were allowed to stay on board. Philae temple was beautiful!!! Totally recommend. The high dam was okay but then again it’s a dam, that’s all there is to see. The unfinished obelisk was okay I guess but it’s hard to live up such a beautiful temple as Philae. The hotel we stayed in was gorgeous!!! In an island in the middle of the Nile and really good accommodations. The food was also really good even though the tour said it included 2 lunches and a breakfast but we had to pay for both lunches ourselves. The next day we had to leave at 4 am to make it early to Abu simbel. Our guide Mostafa was excellent! One of our best tour guides in all of Egypt. He was funny, helpful and very knowledgeable. Abu simbel was absolutely gorgeous and even though it’s a three hour drive each way through the desert it was totally worth it, we loved it. Once back in Aswan, we had lunch near the train station. The place was kind of shady looking but the food was very good. The only drawback was our guide wouldn’t tell us how much it was just said $10 each when he dropped us off. However this time he did take us all the way to our seats on the train. They called it a “spanish” train but the one we accidentally took the day before was way more comfortable and cleaner. Not the agency’s fault but if you’re taking the train, definitely consider a more expensive kind of ticket especially if you’re squeamish. Once we arrived in Luxor our driver took us to the hotel room. Besides a few drawbacks it was a very memorable experience.
