I met Stephan in 2019, at Cocos Is, Costa Rica. He was the Cruise Director on the liveaboard Argo, operated by The Undersea Hunter Group. Cocos is an exceptional place to dive, but conditions can be challenging. The DMs and skiff operators are all highly skilled at keeping people safe, and indeed you don’t notice the skill and judgement this takes. I did notice the effort the entire crew put in the effort to make sure everyone had a wonderful adventure. Stephan is a now a private guide in Eilat, Israel (Red Sea). Diving in Eilat is colorful and easy, once you are in the water. Diving without an experienced guide with local knowledge is possible, and in time you’d figure out the logistics. But it’s much easier, and more fun with a good one. Considerably more ocean would have opened up for us had we crossed the border into Egypt and taken day boats or a liveaboard, options Stephan presented to us. He did coordinate a camel ride during our pre-fly interval which was enjoyable. The dolphin interaction that is possible here is very special. We found Stephan to be sincere, knowledgeable, hardworking, and generally fun to be around. His enthusiasm and love of ocean and adventure is infectious, and he seems committed to sharing it. I would welcome the opportunity to dive with him again.

Driving the Red Sea was a dream since the 1980's and my dives with Red Sea Asana brought the dream to fruition and sparked the desire for more! My dive partner had amazing credentials and experience with all types of environments and people. He game me immediate confidence in our success for the day's adventure. The dive shop he works out of also went out of their way to ensure my comfort and maximum fun from the experience. It was convenient that it was right on the beach and we could shower with HOT water between dives! Our first 2 dives were no deeper than 20-25' .. so read that as LOTS of beautiful fish! One parrot fish actually followed us, because he's learned that where divers go we set the bottom sand in motion, releasing that he likes to eat! About the 3rd time we encountered him he actually let me pet him with my bare hands. I'm waiting for the photos that were part of my tour (i.e., no extra charge) so I can start identifying some of the amazing fish we saw and swam with. The third dive we explored at Navy missile boat that was sunk offshore about 25 years ago in about 80-85', and is now becoming a thriving reef. The way it was prepared we could swim through passageways without needing a "return line" to find out way out, since there were no "closed" rooms for us to get lost in. Not too far from it we encountered an octopus, who didn't come out to play, but who did "peek" at us. Being underwater was great ... the professional treatment in and out of the water made the diving even more memorable. I wish I could stay longer and see what other dives Red Sea Asana could take me on.
