The headline is that you absolutely must do this tour. Anton picked us up in Dubrovnik, drove us to his village and dropped us in Split. It's a great way of moving from one place to the other (and you can be picked up in Split and dropped off in Dubrovnik if that suits you). His village is in Hertzegovina, and he drives you around and shows you a lot about authentic village life in this part of the world. His mother cooked us a delightful meal, and he told us a lot about how the war in 1991-1995 affected his life and that of his family. We felt that we learnt so much about everyday life in Croatia, about history and customs. A highlight was when he took us in his boat and we sailed down a river for about half an hour to a waterfall- it was so peaceful and so quiet.
to be honest this was one of my best ever experiences as a tourist- I felt more like a traveller than a tourist. It wasnt cheap but it was absolutely worth it and we would do it again in a heartbeat.
