Myself and my wife had 5 consecutive nights with Jaco, attempting to see the Aurora in Rovaniemi. We were picked up promptly from our hotel every night and our group size was never more than 6 and on most nights it was just 4 of us. Our success rate for seeing the Aurora was 2 out of 5, but I was happy with that as nothing nature provides is a given.
Nordic Adverntures have a base camp that they use with a tent that can be used as a refuge from the elements, where a fire and campfire sausages accompanied by Grögi keep you warm. The area is private, and only people with Nordic Adventures use the spot, which is ideal if you get a show. We went to 3 different spots during our 5 nights but always to base camp when the weather wasn't favourable for any Aurora viewing. I've read a few reviews elsewhere that suggest the fire and food are a gimmick to take your mind off the fact you aren't going to see anything but the fact is, the only difference to a night out with Nordic Aventures is you either see the Aurora, or you don't, and they do nothing different on any night, they still take you to base camp, they still provide food and drink and a warm place to sit if needed, and Jaco still provides entertaining conversation. If mother nature provides you with a show, that's the bonus, but Nordic Adventures can't control the weather, but they do try to control how comfortable you are when ok their tours.
Jaco was a fantastic guide, full of life, and always had plenty to talk about, so there were no awkward silences. He was never late, and on the night we had our best Aurora show, he stayed out beyond his time so we could make the most of it. We checked in every day with the office via WhatsApp to confirm our trip that night, and the response was always prompt and friendly. I highly recommend Nordic Adventures. They were a pleasure to deal with.
