Located on the Thu Bon river, this historic trading post which was a melting pot for locals, Chinese, Europeans, Asian traders, is cozy, small and retains an old world charm. The houses are charming, painted yellow, (chinese colour for prosperity) as are the wooden bridges which have stood the test of time. Interspersed among houses are stately Community halls and Temples.
The town looks like fairy land at night with multitudinous lanterns of different colours and shapes, esp the boats on the river.
The downside of the whole trip were the milling tourists and unbelievably large crowds of people along the river front. Most of the shops sell the regular touristy fare and every bargain leaves you feel cheated as the very next shop offers the same with even more discounts.
But overall the town is beautiful and its easy to lose your way into the narrow winding lanes which offer a photo opportunity at every turn.
