We took a tour in the Cruise ship, the experience was fantástic, we had the oportunity to see 5 whales, one bear, a lot of birds and other animals, the tour last about 90 minutes, this is something you must see.

Most Boring Whale Watching Tour I've done~ Let me start by saying - years ago I went to Alaska. I took two whale watching tours - one in Juneau and one in Icy Point Strait/Hoonah - I enjoyed them both. So I decided to take another one this time around and do it/book with a local company instead of cruise ship. I support local business. Anyway - we took it with the "son" (forgot name) and another person (aka a Wall named Kyle). Worst whale watching tour out of my three experiences. First, the "son" didn't say much on the way to the whales. One had to ASK him. No narration - NOTHING. Imagine, WE had to ask him how long the whales mother/child would dive once we see a tail. Second Kyle was just a good looking wall (I didn't hear a whisper come out of him). But at least it's eye-candy oO? Third, they packed us up like cattle in a box. We could not walk outside or open a window, it was very suffocating Fourth, no wildlife was spotted. I spotted more wildlife on my own than both gentleman. They essentially didn't stop at anything. They were heading to one location and one location alone. I assume it was radioed in. We finally got to the stop, they let us outside for maybe? 15 min? We saw a few spouts and one tail. YEEEEEY! I mean, I can't fault the "tour guides" about nature... but they were heading there for a reason. Fifth, our tour was shorted by 30 minutes Lastly - because the boat cabin was suffocating, the loud engine noise and the driver/guide ONLY speaking with one person and one person alone (finally he spoke on the way back), while neglecting the ENTIRE boat - the rest of people were either asleep or had headaches. What a waste of time and money! People were saying the father conducts much better tours. Bad luck for us I guess.

After being devastated that our whale watching excursion by Norwegian Cruise Line was cancelled due to mechanical issues, I was scrambling for my once in a lifetime excursion in Icy Strait Point/ Hoonah Alaska when I hit the jackpot by finding Glacier Wind Tours! This wonderful family owned business was not only a joy to work with, but boy did they deliver on the once of a lifetime trip! We were picked up by Theresa (mom) who was warm and friendly and provided all sorts of information about the area on our short drive from Icy Strait Point to Hoonah. We then were greeted by her sons Casey and Kyle. We boarded an enclosed Catamaran with walkways all around the outside for viewing. We were with only 8 other people which made for a wonderful relaxed atmosphere for viewing because everyone got a chance to see everything. Casey and Kyle were both super friendly and very knowledgeable. It didn’t take them long to start our once in a lifetime day! Casey shared with us there was a pod of Killer Whales in the area and he was hoping to get us to see them. We heard him working on the radio and talking with other captains and soon there they were! Casey carefully observed and maneuvered is in for a closer look and we soon realized they had just made a kill. Casey explained how blessed we were as only about 2% of people get to see this. He also shared what behaviors we were going to be witnessing including tail slapping, breaching and a mighty celebration. We got the most amazing pictures! After spending almost an hour with the killer whales, we listened to Casey help another captain get on the whales and we waited until they got there. We then went on to the humpback whales. While heading there we came across the cutest sea otter and again we had plenty of time to see and get pics. Once we got on the humpbacks we were again treated to Casey and Kyle’s knowledge of their behavior and what to look for to capture the best photos… and boy did we! And then the most amazing thing happened… Kyle showed us two whales were heading for us and he told us all to be quiet… when they were under us we got to hear them communicating! We’ve all heard recordings but to be able to experience that first hand was by far, one of the most transcending experiences I have ever had. As we were heading back full of joy I was sharing with Casey that our original excursion was supposed to have a second half to see bears and I was sad we were missing that. A few minutes later Casey called me up and told me to watch the shore… as we moved closer, I started to cry… there on the shore was a mama brown bear and 2 cubs. He shared they had been seeing them for a few days, but didn’t want to say anything in case they weren’t there. My husband and I cannot thank this small family business enough for what they provided to us… They really made trip of a lifetime come to fruition!
