We loved the BLUE ICE - ICE CLIMBING ADVENTURE tour!! We would highly recommend it! Our tour guide was great! He provided great knowledge of the island as we drove down the coast. On the easy down we stopped at Skógafoss and a rest stop where we picked up lunch and ate on the road. The highlight of this tour was the ice climbing. Our guides were Enrique, Monique, and someone else who was also great I just can't remember his name! They were fabulous! We felt so safe with them, and they were so kind and knowledgeable. There were about 18 of us total doing the ice climbing and we were on the glacier from 1-5. We climbed for about 1.5 hours and hiked the glacier the rest of the time. The guides helped improve our climbing technique. Weather wise it was quite cold and windy, but thankfully not raining (but they said it rains most days on the glacier). We wore many layers rather than our puffy coats to allow for mobility. I wore two pairs of leggings, a pair of yoga pants, and rain pants. Then a tank top, two long sleeves, two zip up Patagonia jackets, a thinsulate jacket, and a windbreaker- the windbreaker was key. We also wore turtles and skull hats under the helmets. Crampons, helmets, harnesses, and ice picks were provided by Arctic Adventures. Our group really bonded during the glacier experience and it was an awesome time. On the way home we stopped at Seljalandsfoss and then drove back- everyone was exhausted and slept the ride home. Excellent tour! Of note, I did the SENSATIONAL ICELAND - SOUTH COAST, GLACIER HIKE & NORTHERN LIGHTS tour at the beginning of the week with other friends and was slightly concerned they would be too similar because they saw the same waterfalls and visited the same glacier. I emailed Arctic Adventures who assured me they would be difference experiences and they were right! This Blue Ice tour was much more adventurous and focused on the ice climbing which was such a great experience. Also visiting the waterfalls at different points in the week actually was a different experience because the weather was so different that one time they were frozen and the other they were not.
