We had a whole day stopover on our way from London to Japan so we decided to book a tour to spend the day seeing Kuwait city. So glad we did!
Walied, our guide and driver picked us up at 7:30 a.m. at the airport and took us around Kuwait city and the desert to see various sights.
Walied is an excellent guide and managed around all the varying times of Ramadan with eating & drinking restrictions in public and ensured we got a full experience despite various venues and activities being closed.
We started off with a lovely walk along the beach (much appreciated after a long overnight flight). Then a drive out into the desert to meet and pet camels (my daughter particularly enjoyed this) and visited a dilapidated military camp with interesting graffiti. This was followed by another drive through the desert with a view back on the city. In the afternoon, we went back in the city to spend time in the old Souk followed by a visit to an ecology museum and the very intriguing mirror house run by an inspiring 86 year-old artist. Certainly wasn't what we expected but very enjoyable.
Evening, we went up the Kuwait Towers and ate together with Walied on his breakfast at 6pm at a local restaurant. The food was delicious and excellent value.
Finally, we expressed an interest in classic cars, so Walied even managed to squeeze in a quick visit to the classic car museum on our way to airport at 8:30 p.m.
So, in summary, a fantastic 13 hour day spent with an excellent guide who clearly knew a lot about the city and local culture with sights tailored to our timings and family interests. Highly recommend the service and visit Kuwait city if you have a a few hours to kill between flights.
