We were going on a cruise that had a stop in Bar Harbor, Maine. I never take the ship's large-group shore excursions, instead opting for a small-group tour with a highly rated local guide or tour company. My research led me to Acadia National Park Tours, which had hundreds of Excellent reviews on Trip Advisor.
I had booked one of their tours 2 years ago, but it (and my cruise) was cancelled by the Pandemic. I called Andy Cough, the owner, and he suggested for a small group tour to take the 3.5-hour Premium Narrated Tour in their 14-passenger Berkshire van with padded leather seats. This longer tour (compared to their 3-stop 2.5-hour standard tour in larger buses) has 4 scheduled 30-minute stops at Cadillac Mountain Summit, Sieur De Monts Spring, Thunder Hole on Ocean Drive, and the Jordan Pond area.
We were doubly glad we took this tour as Burt was our guide. He was very knowledgeable about both the town and the Park and was one of the best guides we've ever had on a tour.
As we drove through Bar Harbor on our way to the Park, he described the development of the town from its founding over 200 years ago. He pointed out numerous historic buildings and what families had lived there.
Once we left the town, Burt told us the history of the creation of Acadia National Park over 100 years ago (and how it changed through the years) and discussed the various flora and fauna we would find in the Park. The stops in the park afforded us numerous opportunities for great photos of the trees changing color and some beautiful ocean views.
I highly recommend Acadia National Park Tours for a top-notch tour experience. You won't be disappointed.
