I had wanted to visit for about 40 years. The attraction was Haydn.
What a disappointment. Everything was awful.
The booking on line did not work properly and although I got a ticket for the next day at 10pm, the ticket I had received was for the day I had booked. No guided tour available.
The train journey was surprising. A very flat landscape and uninspiring.
The walk up through Eisenstadt was sobering. Very run down and a bit edgy.
The Schloss was badly organised and the Haydn 'explosion' was completely awful in every way. The objects were badly displayed, had little authenticity and set within atrocious decor. If you are interested in Haydn and his music please do not go.
The Schloss exhibition was a random collection of items from the family. It made no sense, was badly organised and I could not wait to leave.
The redeeming features:
None, although the lady in the shop who sorted out the ticket was helpful.
