Could not name a favorite part of this tour. Picked up on time from accommodation by friendly driver Mathias and told what was about to happen. Great clean comfy car and after about 20km on the bitumen the fun began. First stop an aboriginal sacred site with rock carvings. Mathias set up breakfast with hot freshly brewed coffee. Then went to an old Ghan railway station and from there on to visit an art gallery in an aboriginal community. Fantastic display, watching local artists at work. Travelled the adventurous dirt road to the chamber of pillars with a walk around and climbing the main pillar. An easy walk and climb to area where early explorers left their initials carved into the stone. Great lunch set up again by Mathias with table cloth and freshly made Italian style bread rolls with plenty of fillings of ham, salami, cheese and other goodies. We then moved further on the dirt road, crossed the new Ghan railway line and arrived at rainbow valley where we had a feast of cold cuts, fruit and champagne to watch sunset after an informative walk around the area with our guide. Trip home was good and had to fight to keep the eyes open. What a great experience. Thanks Mathias and Filippo for setting up this wonderful tour.
