I didn't understand the organization of this itinerary at all. I travel for work and have been on hundreds of tours, and this is in my bottom three.
HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE:
Pick up guests. Drive to an Uluru viewing platform. Provide hot drink. Guests walk to viewing platform to see Uluru at sunrise.
HOW IT WAS:
Guests were picked up. We drove to an Uluru viewing platform, where a station for hot drinks (in satchel form) was set up. There was no line, it was an absolute free for all with lots of shoving. Time was wasted just getting the three things you needed: cup, powder/teabag, hot water, none of which had lines.
After wasting a bunch of time playing an impromptu round of the Hunger Games, you then walked to the viewing platform, cup in hand, because there were no trash cans. You're also joining 5 other buses full of people, mind you, so the viewing platform is another free for all as you're wrestling for the best spot (with one hand, because remember you're still holding on to your cup). Taking photos was a nightmare.
They told us to be back at the bus at 6:05, which is baffling! Sunrise was at 5:54, but the walk back takes 10-15 minutes. Essentially, we were told to be at the bus as the sun was rising, which defeats the purpose of watching the sun rise over Uluru. Even more baffling because we spent 15 minutes sitting in the bus afterwards? Doing nothing?? Like we could have spent more time at the viewing platform? Absolute nonsense.
I suspect the tour guide has dealt with late guests before so she told everyone to be back 15 minutes early. Too bad it meant missing the actual sunrise, but she simply didn't care, lol. She just wanted to go home.
There was no info provided about Uluru at all. When we pulled up to the viewing platform, all we got was "oh look, there are desert trees..." which yeah, we're in a desert. Tell us more about Uluru!
The drive to Kata Tjutu was full of tree facts lol, she just pointed out different kinds of trees and read from a script. I couldn't tell if it was the tour guide's first day or 20th year in the business. Either she didn't know what she was doing or she has simply done it so often, she didn't care anymore.
Kata Tjutu itself was nice, we went up and down and that was it, lol. If you're decently fit - like if you could get through a gym class in high school - you'll be fine. There's a bit of an incline but the challenge is the uneven ground caused by a conglomerate of rocks. It's a 20-minute walk up, so very doable.
Even this part of the tour you could just see on your own if you rent a car.
This tour felt like spending money on things I could do on my own, but like... paying to make it unenjoyable. Skip it if you can.
