The five days tour organized by Chuncho lodge is amazing! First we were picked up at the airport by Jorge and we were brought to the lodge (one and a half hour on the road and 5-10 minutes by boat on Tambopata river). In the lodge you were welcomed by the staff and we could immediately install in our huts. Since we arrived very late, we could not do any activity anymore on the first day. But we saw capibara's crossing the lodge and our boat driver could catch a cayman.
In the morning of the second day we went walking in the forest. It was raining a lot but that couldn't stop us neither our guide Marco. We learned a lot about the plants, the animals and the rainforest in general. After lunch we went to taste different kinds of fruits and local products that just grow in 'the backyard'. Have you already heard of copazu, carambola, pomorosa or zapote?
The third day started very early, at 5 we left the lodge with the boat to go to the macaw clay lick. Since it was foggy, we had to wait a long time until the parrots and macaw descended to eat the clay, but definitely worth the waiting! In the afternoon we went to the canopy tower, what a stunning view over the forest! A perfect place to spot a lot of birds and enjoy the beautiful sunset! Chuncho lodge is an amazing place, with great staff. In addition, the food is excellent!
The fourth day we left the lodge to go back to Puerto Maldonado and to go with the boat to lake Sandoval. After the boat ride, we had to walk for an hour to a little port. There we took a row boat and we rowed over the lake to a small family lodge for our lunch. In the afternoon we took the boat again to wander the lake. We saw a lot of birds, caymans, turtles and monkeys! There is also a chance to see otters, unfortunately we didn't spot them.
The fifth day we took all our bagage and went on the boat again, to wander, this time in the rain (poncho is recommended in rainy season!) Again, lots of birds! In the afternoon we went back to Puerto Maldonado to catch our plane.
The tour was amazing, don't doubt of booking! It is an adventure in nature and you'll never know what you will see :D
