We had a trip of a lifetime with our guide Carlos exploring Cotopaxi foothills, Quilotoa crater lake, haciendas, and the surrounding countryside, including an eye-opening visit to a local family farm. It was a great balance of nature, history, culture, and local cuisine. Carlos was very personable, accommodating, and attentive to us and shared a wealth of knowledge.
EBT was very accommodating to have Carlos pick us up at an airport hotel instead of downtown Quito. We started the day by driving to Cotopaxi National Park, where we explored the foothills and the lagoon and saw wild horses and many kinds of birds. Then we drove to the first hacienda where we enjoyed a gourmet lunch and had a surprise visit with a herd of llamas! We then drove to the second hacienda where we spent the evening exploring the grounds and spent a night in a grand room with a fireplace.
After breakfast, we drove to Quilotoa through unbelievable mountainous landscapes with a stop at a local farmhouse along the way. The visit with the farmer and his family was one of the highlights of this trip. Arriving at Quilotoa, the views were spectacular and the lake is a wonder. We hiked part way down and back and took pictures with a llama. After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, we visited a crafts market and then Carlos drove us back to our hotel.
This was an amazing two days. Thank you, Carlos, for making our trip so memorable!
