We did the buffalo trek as a group of three and had an amazing time. The homestay is very authentic which is only possible due to the small group size. Ethos really found a way to do things differently than the standard tour operators - exactly what we were looking for and very much worth it. We didn’t see any other tourists during our entire tour! Hoa, her team, and our guide My were all super nice and helpful. We had a lot of fun on the tour and learned so much. 10/10

I was terrified of being caught in a tourist trap when researching treks/experiences in Sapa. I came across Ethos in a blog written by a family traveling with kids so checked them out. From that moment the service and warmth I felt from the emails, it was evident this was the real deal. Our kids are 9 and 12 and this was our first ever hike so we decided to do a day trip. The knowledge Ethos provide about the beautiful people and their culture is so insightful. Educating us about the Hmong people’s history, way of life and cultures. Our minds were wide open before we even started walking. We did the spirit tree 1 day which was perfect. We didn’t see anyone all day apart from our guide and the wonderful Hmong families along the way. It was so authentic and real. We had lunch with a family who opened their home to us for a couple of hours. Zero English but it didn’t matter, we prepared, cooked and ate lunch together. Our guide was translating along the way. Taking our kids out of the Sydney city living to this remote, beautiful part of the world is something they’ll never forgot. Really felt like we experienced the real Sapa area and not just the town which is a bit I’d a tourist trap. Highly highly recommend Ethos.

We recently did a 3 day Red Dao trek and homestay with our 12 and 13 year old children, organised by Ethos. We couldn’t praise the whole experience enough, and are so pleased we did it. Our guide May Kim was fantastic. She was kind, patient, curious, enthusiastic and so knowledgeable about her people, community, culture and local environment. She adjusted the itinerary in consultation with Ethos to suit our needs, which we really appreciated. Our daughter was unwell, and unable to walk very far. May Kim kindly organised motorbike transfers for her - much to the delight of my 13 year old. The scenery was great, with villages, children, rice and vegetable fields, animals and mountains. We enjoyed picking food for dinner as we went. The homestay in Ta Phin was an incredibly amazing experience. We stayed with her parents and their family, and felt very welcome and comfortable. The food was delicious, fresh and all home grown and made. They made a special red egg for my son on his birthday, and made him feel very special. We thoroughly enjoyed the herbal baths in the homestay, and loved learning about their culture and family. We are so thankful to Ethos for organising this trek, and to May Kim, May Chan and their families for their kindness and hospitality.
